# Can an AI Agent Complete a Booking on Your Website? A Hotel and Restaurant Audit
Being recommended by an AI assistant is only the start. The guest still needs a room, a table or an order they can actually confirm. Some assistants use partner integrations; others may navigate a website through a browser. In either case, confusing booking steps can lose a ready customer.
Google's [guidance on agent-friendly sites](https://web.dev/articles/ai-agent-site-ux) explains that browser agents may use screenshots, page structure and accessible names to understand controls. Those are also the cues people rely on. A good audit therefore follows the complete booking task rather than adding an “AI-ready” badge to the homepage.
## Start with a realistic guest request
For a hotel, try: “Book a pet-friendly room for two adults next Friday, with parking and free cancellation.” For a restaurant, try: “Find a table for four at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and tell me whether there are vegetarian options.” Write down every fact and action needed to finish the task.
Use those requests to inspect your own website and provider pages. Can a visitor find the relevant offer? Are the conditions explained before checkout? Does selecting a date retain that date through the next step? Run the audit on a phone as well as a desktop browser.
## Check the information before the form
Booking pages need precise, current details. Hotels should explain room occupancy, inclusions, accessibility, pet rules, parking, taxes, cancellation and check-in. Restaurants should make hours, location, menu, dietary information, group policies and reservation terms clear.
Put important answers in readable page text. A menu stored only as an image or policies hidden in an inaccessible popup make the decision harder for both people and automated tools. If a fact varies by room, date or service, say what it depends on instead of making a broad promise.
## Make every action recognizable
Use links for navigation and buttons for actions. Give controls clear names such as “Check availability,” “Select this room,” or “Reserve a table.” Label date, party-size, guest-name and payment fields. Show validation errors next to the field that needs attention and preserve what the guest has already entered.
Avoid disappearing controls, hidden overlays and layouts that move around while the page loads. These issues can confuse an agent, but they also cause ordinary users to abandon a booking. You do not need a new AI protocol to fix them. Accessible, predictable page controls are the immediate work. [web.dev's guide](https://web.dev/articles/ai-agent-site-ux) provides examples.
## Verify the handoff to a provider
If your site sends visitors to a booking engine, make the transfer obvious and keep the original selection intact. Check the final URL and merchant name. A direct reservation can use a third-party technology provider, but the guest should be able to tell who is taking the booking and where to get help.
For hotels, compare the displayed room, rate and cancellation policy with the final checkout. Google recommends that its hotel booking links land on a page where the selected room and rate are easy to find. [Read Google's hotel link guidance](https://support.google.com/hotelprices/answer/10472993?hl=en). For restaurants, test both the link on your site and the link on your [Google Business Profile](https://support.google.com/business/answer/6218037?hl=en). The [restaurant website guide](https://loop.fans/blog/restaurant-website-guide) covers clear reservation pages and mobile calls to action.
## Confirm what happens after payment or reservation
A successful booking needs an unambiguous confirmation, including the date, property or venue, number of guests, terms and a way to change or cancel. Test the emails and any account creation step. Where an assistant cannot complete a transaction, a clear handoff still lets the guest finish with confidence.
Measure the difference between people reaching the booking page, starting a booking and confirming one. A rise in AI referrals is not valuable if guests fail at the final step.
## Use the audit to set priorities
Fix factual errors and failed booking steps first. Then improve accessibility and clarity. Only after the basic path works should you investigate emerging agent integrations with your booking provider. Hotels can use the [AI-ready hotel checklist](https://loop.fans/blog/ai-ready-hotel-checklist); restaurants can use the [AI reservation guide](https://loop.fans/blog/restaurant-ai-reservations-chatgpt-google).
Loop's [hotel](https://loop.fans/hotels) and [hospitality](https://loop.fans/hospitality) programs address the guest relationship after discovery and booking. The booking system and loyalty system should work together, but a loyalty program cannot repair a broken checkout.
